Radon testing and mitigation anywhere in Rhode Island

You can't see radon or smell it, and a house can have a high level for decades without anyone knowing. The only way to find out is to test. RIRadonQuotes.com is a free request service: tell us what you need, and we work to connect you with a licensed Rhode Island radon professional.

Why Rhode Island homes get tested

The Rhode Island Department of Health reports that about one in four homes in the state tests at or above the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L. Nationally the figure is closer to one in fifteen. In two towns, Exeter and Richmond, more than half of the homes tested came back over the action level.

Radon is a radioactive gas that forms naturally as uranium in soil and rock breaks down. It seeps up through the ground and collects indoors. According to the Department of Health, long-term exposure to high indoor radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, after cigarette smoking, and the risk is higher still for people who smoke.

A neighbor's result tells you very little about your own house. Two homes on the same street can test very differently.

Testing, fixing, buying, and wells

  • Radon testing. A first test, a retest, or a test for a home you're buying.
  • Mitigation. A system to bring a high level down, installed by a licensed contractor.
  • Buying or selling a home. What the state disclosure says and how testing fits into a sale.
  • Radon in well water. For homes on a private well.
  • Service for an existing system. A fan that has stopped, a gauge that reads zero, or a system nobody has checked in years. Pick "Service or repair" on the form.
